Restless Heart formed in 1984 with John Dittrich, Dave Innis,
Paul Gregg and Greg Jennings. They were joined by Verlon Thompson to
record a demo. After signing with RCA in 1983, Thompson was replaced by
lead singer Larry Stewart.
-
Restless Heart’s self-titled debut album, released in 1985,
included only eight songs including “Let the Heartache Ride,” “I Want
Everyone to Cry,” “(Back to the) Heartbreak Kid” and “Til I Loved You.”
The latter three were all top 10 country hits.
-
The 1986 follow-up, “Wheels,” was their real breakthrough,
topping the charts and producing four No. 1 hits: “That Rock Won’t
Roll,” “I’ll Still Be Loving You,” “Why Does It Have to Be (Wrong or
Right),” and “Wheels.” “Big Dreams in a Small Town” in 1988 gave them
six consecutive chart-toppers with its first two singles, “A Tender Lie”
and “The Bluest Eyes in Texas.”
-
Stewart left the group for a solo career in 1990. He later
scored a hit with “Alright Already.” Meanwhile, Gregg and Dittrich split
lead vocal duties on 1992’s “Big Iron Horses.” Innis left the band in
1992.
-
After 1994’s “Matters of the Heart” they disbanded. Jennings
joined Vince Gill’s band, while Dittrich worked with the Buffalo Club.
Restless Heart reunited in 1998 – minus Innis – with four new tracks
appearing on a “Greatest Hits” compilation. They toured behind the album
with Vince Gill.
-
In 2004, Restless Heart released “Still Restless,” their first
album of all-new studio material in 14 years. The band released a live
album, “25 and Live,” in 2007.
