Grammy-Winning Producer Dies
Larry Butler, the Grammy-winning producers behind some of Kenny Rogers’ most memorable hits, including “The Gambler,” died Friday at his home in Pensacola, Florida. He was 69. In a career that spanned nearly 50 years, Larry collaborated with Loretta Lynne, Charlie Rich, Waylon Jennings and Johnny Cash, among others. The Florida native got his start as a DJ and session pianist in the early 60s before settling in Nashville to work as an in-house producer for Capitol Records.
