Garth Brooks Testifies
Garth Brooks took the witness stand Friday to testify in his civil lawsuit against the owner of a Yukon, Oklahoma, hospital over a $500,000 donation he made with the understanding that a new women’s health center would be built and named after his mother, Coleen Brooks, who died of cancer in 2005. In the breach-of-contract suit filed in 2009 against Integris Canadian Valley Regional Hospital, Brooks is asking for the return of his $500,000. Last week, an Integris executive testified that no new women’s health center has been built, although the money Brooks donated has not been spent. During Friday’s court proceedings, Brooks said he made a deal with Integris CEO James Moore to name the center after his late mother in exchange for the gift. “In my recollection, not only did I agree, we agreed,” Brooks said. The singer also said, “I thought this was one of the great gifts my mom was going to bring to Yukon, Oklahoma.”
