Jimmy Wayne was sidelined just five miles shy of completing his “Meet Me Halfway” solo-walk across America when he had to visit a podiatrist on Saturday to address some severe foot pain. While walking the steep grades out of Mesa, Arizona, last week, Jimmy began suffering a swollen ankle, which resulted in him not being able to walk more than 13 miles on Friday. Jimmy tweeted that he was in so much pain he had to lie down on the concrete until the support vehicle picked him up. Dr. Brian Allan opened his Mesa office especially for Jimmy. The doc said Jimmy shattered the back of his right ankle, a very rare break that will take six to eight weeks to heal. After Jimmy’s ankle was put in a walking brace and he was given some pain pills, he set back out where he left off Friday evening in Scottsdale. He reached Phoenix yesterday after walking 1,700 miles to raise money and awareness for homeless youth. Jimmy walked through six states for HomeBase Youth Services, a charity that helps Arizona youth ages 18-21. Over 100 people joined Jimmy to walk the last half mile.
