When Dolly Parton graduated from Sevier County High School in East Tennessee 46 years ago, it was announced that her dream was to be a big country-western singer. Today, Dolly’s former classmates remember her as being very popular in high school, but some in the audience laughed at her. They certainly weren’t laughing when Dolly recently attended her 46th high-school class reunion. Despite stories of fellow students laughing at her and taunting her, Dolly was actually popular in high school, her former classmates say. She sang on the radio, which was a big deal, but none of them realized she would become the global icon she is today. Parton is already talking about getting together with her classmates in four years for the 50th-anniversary reunion. Dolly has only attended one other reunion – the one staged for her short-lived ABC variety series “Dolly” in 1987.
