Alan Jackson Honors Fallen Miners

Alan Jackson played a tribute concert in Charleston, West Virginia, on Saturday to honor the miners who were killed in a nearby mining disaster last month, as well as their rescue workers. Prior to his concert at the Charleston Civic Center, Jackson met with 27 families affected by the Upper Big Branch incident. He also wore a bracelet during the concert to commemorate what would have been the 21st birthday of Cory Davis, one of the miners who died. Photos of the miners were shown on two screens during a performance of “Coalwood” by Jackson’s longtime pedal steel player, Robbie Flint, a native of Sylvester, West Virginia. The concert will benefit the Montcoal Mining Disaster Fund. Jackson was named an honorary West Virginian by Gov. Joe Manchin.
