Kenny Chesney performed the biggest ticketed country show in New York/New Jersey history, topping the area’s previous record holder, Willie Nelson’s 1983 festival with Merle Haggard, Waylon Jennings and Linda Ronstadt. About 55,000 fans attended the concert. During the free-for-all encore, Chesney dished out covers, including Bob Marley’s “Three Little Birds,” Tom Petty’s “Runnin’ Down a Dream” and Steve Miller Band’s “The Joker.” New York Yankees outfielder Nick Swisher and New York Jets coach Rex Ryan joined Chesney onstage in the night’s final moments. The show was one of a dozen stadium dates on Chesney’s “Goin’ Coastal Tour,” the No. 1 grossing country tour of 2011 according to Pollstar.
