Minnie Pearl Statue Drama In Tennessee

The town of Centerville, Tennessee, wants their statue of the late Minnie Pearl back in the city, but businessman Rod Harris, who gave the statue as a gift to the city in 2005, wants $10,000 for its return. Harris raised the money for the $150,000 statue through donations and then gifted it to the town with the stipulation that it not be moved from the public square, not far from where Minnie Pearl was born. However, the statue was relocated last year due to reconstruction, so Harris took it back and moved it to Grinders Switch Winery. Harris’ lawyer said he will return the sculpture if the town agrees to a suitable location and pays about $10,000 in legal fees. The town is considering getting a new statue made.
