He says first he needed to pause and figure out where he was going in his career. Then he opened the door to songwriters. Church says they had no cell phones and no TV. He says “all you do is write songs. Sometimes it was 3 a.m. Sometimes it was 9 a.m., didn’t matter. We wrote songs.” The result is Eric Church’s new album, “Chief,” which came out yesterday.
